Exploring Accessibility in High-End Audio

05.14.2026 | By Solomon Choi

Solomon Choi is a New York based designer currently working in the furniture industry after graduating from Parsons School of Design. Through his interest in tactile interaction and inclusive design, he developed LUCAS, a 2.5-way stereo speaker system designed for individuals with visual impairments. Inspired by his father, who lost his sight during military service, the project explores how high-end audio systems can become more intuitive through touch and human centered interaction.

Designed to simplify installation, navigation, and calibration, LUCAS features textured cables, differentiated control dials, ergonomic grips, and a rail-based adjustment system that allows users to interact with the speakers more confidently. Through thoughtful material and color choices, the project balances accessibility with contemporary audio aesthetics.

Currently active in New York’s contemporary design scene, Solomon Choi is exhibiting at ICFF Launch Pad as well as the NYCxDESIGN SHINE exhibition curated by Harry Allen, presenting work across furniture, product, and spatial design.
